“This Man Called Jesus”
Twenty-Year History
1988 – 2007
In 1988, Lake Murray Baptist Church presented its first outdoor Christmas Drama as a gift to the community with a roadside nativity scene. As people drove along Hwy. 378, only a handful of people stopped by to see a makeshift stable with fake cardboard sheep fashioned with cotton balls and a plywood donkey on wheels. Some women even served as Wise Men with fake beards since there weren’t enough men.
1988 OUR FIRST YEAR
Over the past 19 years, God has chosen to continue to bless the prayerful efforts of His people here at Lake Murray. Each year while attending the drama, precious souls have made eternal decisions to form a personal relationship with “This Man Called Jesus.”
1994 1995
Since 1988, a total of 389,095 have attended the annual drama, and 12,712 have made life-changing decisions of professions of faith and rededications. In 2007, 35,830 attended during 15 performances. The drama mailing list consists of over 17 states and 200 cites. Many attend in tour buses from across the state and North Carolina and Georgia.
The Home for "This Man Called Jesus" is truly an “awesome” miracle from God! From presenting the drama outdoors in the bitter cold, to renting a tent for seven years,

2001
God saw fit to bless the drama with a home—a home which was named and dedicated to His one and only son, Jesus. The home contains over 28,000 square feet (enough to build more than 14 houses) and seats over 2,700. The home was dedicated debt free to the glory of God on Nov. 25, 2001, for the expansion of the gospel for the Kingdom of God until Christ returns. 2007 was the seventh year presenting the drama in the Home for “This Man Called Jesus.”
Throughout the phenomenal expansion, the mission and purpose have remained constant: “Absolutely Free” as a gift and service to the community, operating solely for the purpose of leading people to accept the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
